The Reed Family Picture Album (as drawn by Les)

Ron is down with Bob on his back and Len grasping a leg.
Els and Syd are amused. Boz is doubled-up with laughter.
Rex is like Queen Victoria.

Everybody in! As Mum reads sedately on the shore, the Reeds and co take the plunge: Ern, Ron, Len, Les, Stan Binch, Bobby, Els, Syd and Reg.

Kite production and a matter of priorities. Les needs rags to provide ballast in the kite tails. He tries to cadge more rags from Mum. But she is concerned that there will be no rags left to make dusters. Les pleads anxiously: "But Mum, we have to have tails for our kites." Note the flour: in those days, glue was concocted simply by mixing a flour and water paste.
Apparently Mum gave in: see further down the page ...

This classic event was never forgotten by the Reeds. Whenever they got together, they wistfully recalled this incident, where Ern filled the motorcar with petrol and then drove off, forgetting to replace the hose back on the bowser. Les entitled this one: A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum (crossed out and replaced with "Sorrento"). The man in the hat shouts at Ern: "Hey, mate! You're pinching his hose!"

Ever the gentleman, Ern replaces the hose on the bowser and continues on his journey.

Els is pursued by a prostrate Ron.
In the bunch are Bob (flat on his face), Boz and Len (with coat) sitting up and Syd (lies on his back).
Rex sleeps.

Evidently, Paddy and his bone have been keeping Ron awake at night. So Ron chucks the bone away, saying: "Now perhaps I'll be able to get some sleep tonight." Stan Binch comments: "If Ron throws that bone as far as he threw his motoring glove, Paddy will never find it." Ern responds with: "Paddy's brought it back three times already!" Bobby notes the rancid nature of the bone: "Golly! Two sniffs of that and you're a glutton!"

Building "Ern's Room" and Len has an accident. Bob wisely reminds Len that he has forgotten his parachute as Ron offers to get a cushion for Len to land on.

Top spinning.

Pitch cards.

Bob is punished: sand down his back.
Len (with coat) holds the legs while Ron applies the sand.
Els attends to the head.
The back belongs to Les (or is it Boz?)
Syd is on the far side of Els.
Rex the dog looks out to sea.
